Summer Safety Tips to Keep Kids Safe In Cars that all parents MUST read! Using these simple suggestions, you keep the risk of harmful situations from occurring.
With summer quickly approaching, I want to share a few of my tricks to keep your little ones safe while on the go. With all the fun activities and errands that must be done, distractions happen and kids are left in cars. For some, this seems unfathomable, but quite honestly, with all the distractions in our life, I can 100% see how it happens. These are my summer safety tips to keep kids safe in cars. All parents MUST read! Using these simple suggestions, you keep the risk of harmful situations from occurring.
- Keep your kids rear facing as long as possible following the guidelines set by your carseat manufacturer. The AAP recommends “All infants and toddlers should ride in a rear-facing seat until they are at least 2 years of age or, preferably, until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car seat manufacturer.” This seems simple enough. I hear many excuses to why parents turn kids around, but in my humble opinion, it’s an excuse. My twins will be 3 in August and they haven’t the clue of the joys of facing forward.
- Store your purse or bag in the back seat WITH your cellphone to keep down distractions. I am so guilty of this one. I have kids making song requests that are on my phone, quick texting their father or my friends, and checking Instagram posts. Is it worth an accident? Absolutely not! I have implemented cell phone in back seat behind the kids so that I know I won’t leave them in there. We never go without our phones these days. I also have keyless start to my car, so I keep my keys in my bag. I can’t lock my car without grabbing my bag.
- Place your child’s shoes and/or toy in the front seat. It takes no time for a car to heat up over 100 degrees and lead to heat stroke. Especially if you live in warmer climates. Don’t risk it and always keep your child’s shoes up front. Not everyone carries a purse or has keyless start but we all have a favorite toy, so use that as reminder to keep your kids safe!

Putting your phone/bag in the back with the babies is so smart! I like the idea of their toys and shoes up front, too. It sounds awful when you hear about it, but it’s so easy to get distracted and go about your errands. It’s so simple to avoid a tragedy!
