I can’t rave enough about our kids preschool and I try to give back and make teacher gifts whenever I can.  We have to sign our kids in and out every day and I find that the pens over time, start to dwindle down to just a few left by the end of the week.  This Freshly Picked Pens in Crayon Container Teacher Gift is the perfect homemade gift that not only decorates the sign in counter but also helps keep the pens in place.  Parents are less likely to accidentally take a pin with a large silk flower on it.

What you’ll need to make your Freshly Picked Pens in Crayon Container Teacher Gift:

  1. Silk Flowers
  2. Floral Tape
  3. Pens with Lids
  4. Hot Glue and Glue Sticks
  5. Crayons
  6. Container: Small Plastic Garden Pot  or  Pen Cup

Begin by removing the bottom plastic piece from your pens.

Next, remove flowers and leaves from the wired stems.  Cut off the addition plastic from leaves, leaving only the leaves.  Leave the plastic backing on the flowers.

Start wrapping your pens by beginning at the ink side and traveling up to the end of the pen.  Stopping a inch or so before the end, to add the leaves.

Add the leaf with a small dot of hot glue.  Then wrap the floral tape over the leaf stem and continuing to the end of the pen.

Flip the flower over, to reveal the plastic side.   Hot glue the bottom of the flower to the end of the wrapped pen, do this by inserting the small flower stem that is remaining, into the end of the pen.  Hold the leaf back so that it doesn’t get caught in the glue.

Suggestion:  If you would like to seal the floral tape, take a paint brush, and apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the pen.   Making sure to only apply it to the floral tape, not the flowers.

I hope you enjoy making these Freshly Picked Pens as much as I did.  Now you can begin making your Crayon Container.

How to make your crayon pot or pen container:

Start by emptying out the box of crayons.  This way you can grab alternate colors easily.   Add a strip of glue and press the crayon into the pot or pen container.

When gluing the crayons on a pot, make sure to allow small gaps between crayons on top, and tightly together on the bottom.  This will account for the pot having a larger top than bottom.

Pen cups are a different story.  You can add the glue and crayons straight all the way around.

Finally, my last added touch.  Plastic floral gems in the bottom of your pen container or small pot, help the pens stay in and upright while looking like a beautiful bouquet of flowers.Need an extra special gift for your school? What a super cool DIY for kids and their family! I remember making a bookshelf for my teacher with my dad. It was such a fond memory.

That is a cute teacher gift. I don’t normally give my kids teacher’s gifts until Christmas, but I love this so much that I just might do it this year 🙂

You’re absolutely right. Giving teacher gifts at Christmas is more of a normal time. I love finding inexpensive ways 😉 to show our Amazing teachers just how much we appreciate them all year round. But I like to give a nice big gift card at Christmas. 🙂

What a creative and simple idea to give a teacher. I would also stick a gift card in there as an added surprise!

This is one of the cutest and most creative ideas I have ever seen. I dont know that I could make one as pretty but I may just try!

This is such a genius idea! Not only does it look really cute and adds a nice decor to the area – but it effectively solves the problem of pens going missing constantly! Just brilliant!

One of the teachers I work with has one of these in the front of her room. I teach middle school, and she uses it for when kids forget their pens and pencils. They borrow one of her flower pens, and then she’s sure to get it back.

As a teacher, I can tell you that I would love this gift. It would look great on my desk in my classroom.
