This is such an easy DIY Wall Display Boxes for Kid's Mementos. They keep their prized possessions up and out of the way in small spaces. My son is now starting to collect things that he really values. We kept the items randomly on his dresser or out in the living area until they started to clutter the space. Once he got his first trophy, I decided I needed to create DIY wall display boxes for kid’s mementos.

Creating these boxes was very easy; however, the process does require power tools. I will admit to the fact that mine did not come out perfect. As a result, the quirkiness added character. At least that is what I am telling myself!

To make DIY Wall Display Boxes for Kid’s Mementos, you will need the following:

  • Wood board – I used 8′ 1″x4″
  • Liquid Nail
  • Sandpaper
  • Jig Saw
  • Drill & Bits
  • Screws
  • Paint or Spray Paint
  • L-Brackets

I naturally broke up DIY Wall Display Boxes for Kid’s Mementos into 4 steps.

  1. Construct
  2. Paint
  3. Hang Display Boxes
  4. Paint Brackets

DIY Wall Display Boxes for Kid’s Mementos – Construct

Construct. First of all, in order to construct the boxes, you will need to measure and cut the 1×4 in the lengths you need. I chose 16″ long sides, and used 2 left over boards I found from an old project that were both 11.5″ long. This yielded 2 – 16″ pieces and 2 – 11.5″ pieces. Next, I secured the pieces together to form a rectangle using the liquid nails. This simply holds the boards together as I pre-drill the boards to secure with screws. The second box I made was from a 4′ board cut into 4 pieces yielding 2 – 12″ pieces and 2 – 11.75″ pieces. Finally, I alternated the corners to make a fun look.

DIY Wall Display Boxes for Kid’s Mementos – Paint

Paint.  After each corner of the box is secured, sand the rough edges and excess glue. Next, wipe the box down with a sponge to remove any dust and prepare it for painting. Probably the easiest part is that I used a primer + paint all in one spray paint. In a well ventilated area, I carefully sprayed each side with a layer of spray paint. I repeated the process 5 minutes later.

DIY Wall Display Boxes for Kid’s Mementos – Hang Shadow Boxes

Hang Shadow Boxes. Last but not least, I used L-brackets to secure the shadow box to the wall. Once the spray paint was dry to handle, I marked my drill holes and secured two brackets to the box. Next, I marked the bracket on the wall, using a level to assure proper placement, and securely hung using wall anchors. As a result, a secured display box.

DIY Wall Display Boxes for Kid’s Mementos – Paint Brackets

Paint Brackets.  After the boxes are hung, paint the L-brackets the same color as the wall to camouflage. The last thing you want is an eye sore of an L-bracket instead of the items you wish to display.

Home Depot is definitely my favorite place to buy paint. Their Behr paint holds up to multiple washings (sometimes in one day) and to other shenanigans! I highly recommend their product.

This is such a great idea. I remember our own mementos just being stored away in a box somewhere – my parents would have loved to have something like this! Now my nephew and nieces would have theirs displayed proudly 🙂
