I love all things monogrammed. Like my little towel on my bathroom counter. It has such a classy look. This quick easy monogram doormat is the result of a thought I had when I saw the plain mat at Ikea. I had just seen how easy it is to spray paint these using a stencil and had the idea to make my own.

Look these up on online. You will find they are anywhere from $25 to $75! Crazy! I was able to make such a beautiful custom design for around $20! Not to mention customized to the color I like – the gold gives a softer look than the standard black.

To make this quick easy monogram doormat you will need:

  • Plain doormat
  • Poster board or stencil
  • Spray glue
  • Spray paint
  • Painter’s Tape
  • Knife

I drew my “G” onto a piece of poster board. I used a pencil so I could sketch my letter and create my final lines. Once I was happy with my monogram, I carefully cut it out using a sharp knife.

Next, I took my stencil and sprayed the back with glue. I wanted it to adhere slightly, so when I started to spray paint the mat, the poster board would stay put. Here I used a gold metallic spray paint by Rust-oleum. I was hoping to create the perfect fall doormat now summer is slowly coming to an end.

Once this finished drying, I started to apply the painter’s tape to create my border.  I cut the inner strip of tape with my knife to ensure a straight edge. Finally, I sprayed the trim with the spray paint. After I allowed it to completely dry, I removed the tape to a beautiful finished product.

Other ideas I want to do:

  • Newly weds’ initials L+G for custom wedding present
  • Every Season Possible! How cute would a spider for Halloween, tree for Christmas, etc. be?

Wow that is a super easy to make yet elegant looking doormat. I am in love with it and must make one for our home. It’s so hard as we all have different last names, so will have to figure out what letter we would choose 😉

Whoa that looks store-bought! Why would we pay $$$ for something we can DIY right? And you make it look so easy 🙂

What an ingenious DIY idea! Decorated doormats are so expensive but plain ones are reasonable. I could totally make one for each season of the year!
