Using just three ingredients, this quick & easy natural carpet freshener is perfect for removing smells from your carpets. It is a natural alternative to those pricey options at the store.
I think it took me way too long to discover this quick & easy natural carpet freshener. Mainly because our last house had no carpets. Our new home has carpets upstairs and in the basement. Even though we moved into an immaculately kept home, the smells started to come up from the carpets.
I love carpet fresheners, but I am super sensitive to smells. I would sneeze like crazy after using them. After having kids constantly on the ground, I also wasn’t excited for them to be so close to the leftover product either. The alternative to make my own was much easier than I ever anticipated, and I had all the ingredients in my pantry.
With guests arriving into town this week, I really wanted to finish my guest room with fresh carpets. Luckily, this only took minutes to throw together.
To start off, all you need are the following ingredients:
- Mix the 1/2 cup baking soda with 1/2 cup Borax. Add the essential oils. I used about 10 drops each of Lemon, Peppermint, & Lavender.
- Shake until well mixed. Allow to sit for an hour or so. This will help marry the oils and the powder.
- Shake the carpet freshener evenly over your carpets and allow to sit a minimum of 10 minutes.
- Vacuum up the powder completely. You may have to make several passes.
Stop and smell just how good they are. I absolutely love this essential oil combo and have been obsessed with lemon and peppermint ever since I was a little girl. Earlier this year, I made a lip balm using it! I always add lavender for good measure, since it is the soothing oil.
There are several ways to store this, but I used a shaker cup. I think I originally got it for my shake up powder drinks. It was absolutely perfect. You could also use:
