This oil based homemade eczema cream soothes dry and irritated skin better than the petroleum based products out there. The recipe combines oatmeal and lavender essential oils for the ultimate combination.
I sought out to make a homemade eczema cream to soothe skin after living in the cold dry Canadian climate for one week. My daughter’s hands were so awful, along with her little body. I read many different recipes and found this one combined with my favorite ingredient, Rosehip seed oil was exactly what I wanted. It not only soothes the skin, but relieves the dry itchiness too!
I chose oatmeal for its soothing compounds. It is also super moisturizing. Shea butter reduces inflammation and extremely nourishing. It is a perfect base for this recipe. Vitamin E is known for its healing benefits as well as hydrating and moisturizing. I’m obsessed with rosehip seed oil. It is clearly a favorite ingredient as I shared in my lip balm recipe.
- 1/4 C. Oatmeal Rolled Oats
- 1/4 C. Shea Butter
- 1/3 C. Coconut Oil (I used fractionated)
- 2 Tsp. Vitamin E Oil
- 2 Tsp. Rosehip Seed Oil
- 25 drops Lavender Essential Oils
How to Make this Homemade Eczema Cream to Soothe Skin
First, use a food processor or a blender to grind the oatmeal to a powder. I will say my food processor is awesome, but not the best for this. I wish I had my old coffee grinder. Now that would be PERFECT.
After the mixture is completely blended, add the vitamin E oil & rosehip seed oil. Stir completely. Finally add the oatmeal and lavender essentials oils. Mixing one final time. My assistant came in to check my work.
Pour your mixture into a container for storage. I used a glass tupperware since that is all I have, but there are so many containers for keeping it fresh. You won’t actually have it mixed completely since the oatmeal sinks to the bottom. Don’t worry! You still get the wonderful benefits!
