This is the best EVER laundry whitening solution using ingredients you most likely already have in your cabinet. Your whites will be brighter than ever before.
Laundry haunts me every day. Currently my adopted washer mentioned here went on the fritz. Of course… So I am out of laundry commission, but that wasn’t before I tested the best EVER laundry whitening solution. I am not lying. It is fabulous. This comes from the mama with a 5 year old that has a drawer full of white socks. I know about white laundry struggles.
I never was that good at laundry until I had babies. Nothing like that first diaper blow out or spit up down the front of that beautiful new fancy outfit to make you go, OH MY GOSH, how in the world do I clean this? Oxyclean was always a friend of mine, but then I realized the stains got worse. They got more intense. The war was ON!
I never back down to a challenge. My laundry efforts must pay off. Using this awesome recipe, I was able to tweak to my needs & overcome those dingy whites.

How to use my best EVER Laundry Whitening Solution
If you own a top load washing machine, you are super lucky. This will be much easier for you. If you own a front loader, you can follow the directions below that I used. I also use ratios in my ingredient list so you can adjust the amount to your load size. For me it is simpler to follow!
Step 1 – First, heat your water to boiling. My home has extremely hot tap water, but I went ahead and boiled 2 big pots of water. If you are using your top loader, set it to fill at hot and add in an additional pot of boiling water.
Step 2 – Next, add all the ingredients to a large soaking bucket and mix with half the boiling hot water. Stir a bit to combine the ingredients. Add the clothes and fill with the water until it is completely submerged. The more water the more diluted the solution, so I used as little waster as possible. To add more heat to the mix, I placed the bucket in a sink and filled around it with hot water.
Step 3 – This should be easy part… forget about it! Leave it alone for a minimum of 12 hours. If you are using a top loader, start the load, let it fill, and stop the cycle for the soak. Or if you have a fancy machine (which I NEVER did), there is a soak setting. Just make sure to choose a small load size.
Step 4 – Wash your clothes in a normal cycle with extra rinse cycle. Clean clothes have no soap on them. I find soap residue actually brings out stains later.
This solution is perfect for the dreaded baby clothes you take out of storage. Have you ever noticed that your clean used baby clothes come out of it’s storage box and they are covered in spit up stains? You didn’t put them up that way, over time it happens. This is the perfect solution for that!
Socks, under shirts, and boxers. I find things we wear all the time tend to get dingy over time. Especially my son’s school socks he wore with his uniform. They had the filthiest black top that stained his socks. NIGHTMARE.
Extra bonus if you can dry your clothes in the sunshine too! Sunshine offers whitening powers (think you kids’ hair during summer).
